Kevin O'Brien Confident about Ireland Chances in ICC World T-20

During last year’s ICC World Cup, Ireland created one of the biggest upsets, when they beat England in Bangalore.
It was Kevin O’Brien who set it up with the fastest century made in World Cups as Ireland won in the last over.
"Initially, after the World Cup, it got pretty hectic for me. But things have been quiet the last six to eight months. It was obviously very pleasing from a personal point of view. The main thing that came out of that game was that we won. At the end of the day, it’s a team game and we want to win every game. It’s a tremendous achievement to have that and the good thing is, it will remain for at least another three years."
That win for O’Brien remains his biggest achievement in cricket so far. "We beat Pakistan as well in the 2007 World Cup, but I think the magnitude of the win last year, in front of a huge audience in India, it was amazing," he added.

Despite his heroics at the last World Cup, O’Brien wasn’t able to secure an IPL contract. "That’s life. I was in the auction, but no one signed me. We have to move forward, and hopefully, I will have a good tournament and next season I will get one."
Ireland are pooled alongside the West Indies and Australia in Group ‘B’ and O’Brien is confident his side will push both opponents to the maximum. "Hopefully, another good performance, as half good as last year, will propel us into the Super Eight here. Since 2007, we have done well at all ICC events. In the last four ICC events, we qualified for two Super Eights twice and narrowly missed out on another instance. From the team’s point of view, we can look at this tournament with a lot of confidence. We have played the West Indies a lot, although we haven’t played against Australia much. But with Craig McDermott (Bowling Coach) on board, we get some insight from him as to what to expect from them. There’s no reason for us to fear anyone in this tournament."
The biggest plus point for the Irish side is the big hitters they have got in their side. "Paul Sterling is a big hitter. So is our captain William Porterfield. Then guys like Ed Joyce, Trent Johnson and Gary Wilson all can clear the rope. We have a lot of things going our way, with our batting."
O’Brien, whose cricket heroes are Kapil Dev and Andrew Flintoff, also said that they were pretty disappointed when the ICC announced the next 50 over World Cup in Australia was going to be limited to full members of the ICC. "I was pretty disappointed at that point, but thankfully, the ICC changed that position. There’s a qualifying tournament now and we are on top of that. We have six games to go and if we can get two wins from those six games, we should be there in 2015. We have performed really well in the last few years," he remarked.
