Sangakkara beats Gavaskar record

Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara emerged as the highest run scorer against Pakistan surpassing Sunil Gavaskar’s record during the second Test against Pakistan on Tuesday.

Sangakkara, unbeaten on 72, surpassed Indian cricketing legend’s highest score against Pakistan while he was on 60, to reach 2090 runs.

Sri Lankan wicket-keeper batsman also became the the fourth batsman to score 2000 runs at Sinhalese Sports Club, while he was on 57.

Sangakkara has played 29 innings off 20 matches in this ground while his career best 287 also came on this ground. Now, after surpassing Gavaskar’s record, SSC would have become very special for Sangakkara.

Incidently, he has played 15 matches and 28 innings against Pakistan and has secured 2102 runs so far (till lunch on Day 4 of the second Test match against Pakistan) at an average of 87.58 with a highest score of 230. He has recorded eight centuries and eight half centuries against the Asian rivals.

While Sunil Gavaskar had scored 2089 runs off 24 matches and 41 innings at an average of 56.46 with 5 tons and 12 fifties against Pakistan to become the highest run-scorer against the arch rivals.
