Sangakkara within sight of another world record

Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara has been on a record breaking spree in the current Test series against Pakistan, and in the third Test that gets underway on Sunday at his hometown in Kandy, he could break another world record.
Sangakkara goes into the final Test at Pallekele, requiring 202 runs to become the 10th Test cricketer to complete the milestone. And if he gets there, he will be the fastest to 10,000 runs, breaking the record held by one of his cricket heroes, Brian Lara.

West Indian Lara holds the world record for the fastest to 10,000 runs, having reached it in 195 innings and Sangakkara has scored 9798 runs in 187 innings.People in Kandy could witness another milestone being added to his outstanding career.
Sangakkara was also the fastest to 8000 and 9000 Test runs. He became the fastest batsman to 8000 runs, two year ago, completing two innings lesser than Sachin Tendulkar to get there.

Last year, also against Pakistan, he became the fastest to 9000 Test runs, when he broke Rahul Dravid’s record. Dravid had required 176 innings to 9000 Test runs, while Sangakkara got there on his 172nd test innings.
