Bangladesh A team skipper Shahriar Nafees was sent back to Dhaka on Sunday after the top-order batsman was accused of breaching discipline.
However, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had not informed Nafees’ return officially but sources from the BCB confirmed that the national cricketer reached Dhaka yesterday.
What could gone so wrong that Bangladesh A team skipper had to return before the side complete the tour?
BCB Chairman of media committee Jalal Younus said, “The team management had to face humiliation for Nafees’ behavior that’s why he has been sent back,”
It was learnt that Shahriar Nafees protested one of the umpire’s decision and indulged himself into a verbal battle with the match officials on the second day during their match against Karnataka State Cricket Association XI.
Sources informed that Nafees protested after he was given out and stood on the crease for sometime. And while walking back to the hatch, the Test cricketer cursed the umpires in Hindi. The reaction didn’t end there. Once the Dhaka lad was back into the dressing room, Nafees kept on shouting on the match officials and was literally threw his batting gears all around the dressing room.
“Nafees’ behavior surprised us and his actions made the team face humiliation in front of the hundred school goers. BCCI won’t take this positively and we wonder how KSCA reacted to this. Decisions might go against you in cricket and one should be taking it sportingly. But it is really sad how Nafees reacted to it being the captain of the side,” said member of the team management.
However, Nafees denied the accusation and thinks his action wasn’t such severe.
“I never misbehaved with the umpires and many cricketers react the way I did when I was back in the dressing room. I don’t think I did any such thing that would send me back home,” said Nafees.
It was learnt that Nafees is irritated of the fact that he wasn’t named in the 30-man squad for the World Cup T20. His behavior was also marked by the team management in Khulna where Bangladesh A team played few practice matches before leaving for India. Bangladesh A traveled to India last month for participating in the Shafi Dharsha Cricket Tournament, organised by Karnataka State Cricket Association. Bangladesh’s first match ended draw against Baroda however earned three points for maintaining a lead in the first innings. In the second match, the visitors lost against KSCA XI. It was learnt that the team management was not happy with Nafees’ performance which acted on the decision of sending the skipper back home.
