Ponting goes in to bat for child's

Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting and his wife Rianna have launched the Biggest Game of Cricket, an Australia Day initiative from the Ponting Foundation aimed at boosting charitable donations to organisations who help young children battling cancer.

The Ponting Foundation has worked with charitable organisations for a decade to help families with children battling the disease but the launch is aimed at increasing the valuable work already being done.

"I have visited hospitals across Australia and witnessed the impact that cancer has on kids and their families," Ricky Ponting said."In the coming year the Ponting Foundation is making a major effort to raise additional funds to help young Australians and their families beat cancer.

"It doesn't matter if you are young or old, a cricket tragic or have never played, whether you were born in Australia or from another country, we can all make a difference.

"And that is why I want you to join us on Australia Day and play Biggest Game of Cricket.

"We are going into bat for kids with cancer, and don't worry if you're not a cricketer, simply get your friends and family together on Australia Day, play a game of cricket, or sponsor a game or a player, and help us to continue to support young Australians facing the biggest battle of their lives."

"Like Ricky, I have witnessed how cancer affects children and their families," Rianna Ponting added.

"While we might be enjoying Australia Day with a BBQ and a drink with friends, there will be lots of families facing another round of cancer treatment or hoping for a cure."

The idea of the Biggest Game of Cricket is for people of all ages to register and then play a game of cricket on or around Australia Day, whether it be a serious one with bragging rights on the line among family or friends at the local park or just a friendly hit at the beach.

Those registered can then seek donations from friends, family and colleagues but people can also donate to the Ponting Foundation if unable to participate.

BGOC will also raise awareness about childhood cancer and look to support education and wellness programs.
