Vass released by Northamptoshire

Northamptonshire have decided not to renew Chaminda Vaas' contract for 2013, citing the 38-year-old's troubles with fitness last season. A variety of injuries saw the former Sri Lanka seam bowler play in only six of Northants' 16 Division Two Championship matches and he also missed much of the Clydesdale Bank 40.

Murali Urge Sri Lankan team not to miss out this time

Sri Lanka's nine wicket victory against West Indies in the warm-up game has set the tone for the hosts' for their 2012 ICC World Twenty20 campaign, but well begun is often half-done cautioned Muttiah Muralitharan. The former Lankan spinner, who quit international cricket after the ICC 2011 World Cup, felt the hosts have shown good rhythm but they still need to push themselves as the tournament progresses.
"Nothing can be better than starting a World Cup with a victory under your belt. I think we played good cricket today and Mahela (Jayawardene) has ably led from the front. We have to keep this momentum going," Murali told TOI on Thursday.

Mendis to unveil all of his variation in T-20 World Cup

Sri Lanka spinner Ajantha Mendis has promised to deliver all five of his bowling variations in the Twenty20 World Cup tournament which begins next Tuesday.
Mendis, who holds the best bowling figures in the T20 format with 6-16 from four overs against Australia in 2011, has been included in Sri Lanka's squad after spending nine months out with a back complaint.

He is known for his unique style of spin bowling in which he applies finger techniques similar to those used while playing a popular Indian subcontinent board game called Carrom.

Mahela hoping to go one better this time

Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardena is keen to finally lead his side to triumph at a global ICC event, during the upcoming ICC World Twenty20 2012.
The Sri Lankans were runner-up at the ICC World Twenty20 2009 to Pakistan having finished second to Australia at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 under Jayawardena. Then, in Mumbai, despite a hundred from Jayawardena they also finished as runner-up to India at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
Jayawardena is desperate now to change the record and finally go one better at the ICC World Twenty20 2012.
