Sri Lanka beat West Indies in a warm-up game

Sri Lanka gave a very strong account of itself when it took on West Indies, one of the favourites for the ICC World Twenty20, in a warm-up game at the Nondescripts Cricket Club ground in Colombo on Thursday. The hosts ran away winners by nine wickets after a superb all-round show.

West Indies, after being put into bat, totalled 132 for six from its 20 overs, with Chris Gayle sitting out. Lendl Simmons (2) and Dwayne Smith (5) fell early, and the bulk of the scoring was done by Johnson Charles (30), Darren Bravo (29) and Kieron Pollard (28 not out).
Sri Lanka tried as many as seven bowlers to complete its overs. Nuwan Kulasekara (2-35) was the most successful of the lot, while Lasith Malinga and Angelo Mathews picked one wicket apiece and the Sri Lankan fielders effected two run outs.
133 was never going to be a big target for the Sri Lankan batsmen, and they chased down the total without much ado.
Dilshan Munaweera (24) was the only batsman to be dismissed, as Tillakaratne Dilshan slammed an unbeaten 38-ball 50 and Mahela Jayawardena, the captain, scored an unbeaten 57 from 35 balls to take Sri Lanka home in just 14.2 overs.
Ravi Rampaul was the only successful West Indian bowler in an otherwise lacklustre show.
