South Africa named Squad for the Hong Kong Sixes
Khaya Zondo, the only centurion in last season’s domestic T20, has been included in the South African team for next month’s Hong Kong Super Sixes competition.
The tournament takes place on October 27 and 28, 2012.
The 22-year-old Sunfoil Dolphins batsman was the one player to benefit from the temporary inclusion of the New Age Impi team in last season’s competition. His unbeaten century against the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras at Boland Park, Paarl, came off just 65 balls. He went on to finish the campaign with 259 runs at an average of 32.37 with a strike rate of 112.60.
Colin Ingram will captain the South African team which will include other Proteas in Rory Kleinveldt, Wayne Parnell and David Miller. Kleinveldt was a member of the winning team in 2009.
“This is the strongest squad we have been able to select for this event since we won the Hong Kong tournament in 2009,” commented Cricket South Africa (CSA) selection convener Andrew Hudson.
“We were not able to consider players from the Nashua Titans and the bizhub Highveld Lions because of their involvement in the Karbonn Smart CLT20 but we still have a very strong squad that has the potential to emulate the squad of 2009 for whom Farhaan Behardien famously hit the winning six off the last ball of the final.
“Zondo is the latest player to be rewarded for outstanding domestic form and this is an opportunity for him to take his career to the next level.”
